AC replacement in Greenacres, FL is one of the larger purchases a homeowner makes, and it is usually made in a hurry, in a hot house, with one company's word to go on. Next Level Air Conditioning replaces residential and commercial systems across Palm Beach County from our office in Greenacres.
★★★★★
“My old AC system completely died on me, right when it started getting hot. I called Robert and he came out to give me a quote the next day.”
When replacement is the right call
Replace when most of these are true, not when one is:
- The system is 12 years or older and running most of the year
- It still uses R-22, which has not been produced since 2020
- The compressor or the evaporator coil has failed
- You have paid for two or more repairs in the last couple of seasons
- The repair quote is a meaningful fraction of a new system
- The house has never been comfortable, which usually means sizing or ductwork, not the unit
Repair when the system is under about 10 years old, has been maintained, and the failure is a capacitor, a contactor, a motor, or a drain problem. Those are normal wear items on a system with years left, and replacing a whole system over one of them is a waste of your money.
We will give you both numbers and tell you which one we would pick. If the repair is the better deal, that is what we will say.
What a proper change-out includes
This is where installations differ far more than equipment does. On every replacement:
- Nitrogen flows through the copper while we braze, so no scale reaches the compressor.
- Heat-blocking putty protects the TXV and the sensors during brazing.
- The condenser sits on a leveled slab, checked level, because the compressor's oil depends on it sitting flat.
- A solid pre-made concrete hurricane pad, anchored with tie-down clips and masonry anchors, with the wind-rating sticker left visible as Florida code requires.
- Three feet of electrical clearance at the condenser, done the same way regardless of which inspector is coming.
- Duct transitions fabricated on site and run all the way down to the throat of the equipment, rather than a large box dropping to the throat that collects debris and grows mold.
- Tape-to-tape sealing instead of mastic painted over everything.
- Low-voltage wiring sleeved, the drain run neatly, wall penetrations sealed before inspection.
- Floors covered and the work area closed off, even with other trades in the house.
You are not going to inspect most of this yourself. That is the point of asking a contractor to put it in writing. Why each step matters is on our AC installation page.
Equipment and brands
Every brand has strengths and weaknesses, and installation quality decides how long a system lasts far more than the label does. Most complaints about a "bad brand" are really about a bad install. We install and service Trane, Carrier, Mitsubishi Electric, Rheem and American Standard, repair every major brand, and are not an exclusive dealer for any of them.
What affects AC replacement cost
Financing is available on new systems.
How long it takes
A straightforward residential change-out is usually a single day. It runs longer when the ductwork or the transitions need rework, when the electrical needs updating, or when the air handler is in a location that makes removal difficult. Permits and inspection are handled as part of the job.
Sizing, and the mistake that makes a house clammy
Bigger is not better here, and this is the single most expensive misunderstanding in Florida HVAC.
An oversized system satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it pulls the humidity out. The house ends up cold and damp at once, and the short cycling wears the equipment out early. A correctly sized system runs longer, holds the humidity down, and lasts longer doing it.
When we quote a replacement we size it for the house, not for the box that was there before. If the old unit was wrong, repeating it is not a plan.

Frequently asked questions
How long should an AC system last in Florida?
Often 10 to 15 years, and less than that if it was oversized, poorly installed, or never maintained. A system here runs most of the year, so it accumulates far more hours than the same equipment would in a milder climate.
Should I repair or replace my AC?
Repair if the system is under about 10 years old, has been maintained, and the failure is a normal wear item like a capacitor or a motor. Replace if it is 12 or more years old, uses R-22, has lost a compressor or coil, or has needed several repairs recently. We will give you both numbers.
My system uses R-22. Does that force a replacement?
Usually it points that way. R-22 has not been produced since 2020, so what remains is reclaimed and expensive. Putting significant money into an R-22 system rarely pays off.
Is a bigger system better?
No, and it is the most expensive mistake in Florida HVAC. An oversized system leaves the house cold and clammy and short cycles itself to an early death. Correct sizing beats maximum sizing here.
Which brand should I buy?
The one that fits your plans and your budget. Install quality matters more than the badge, and we install every brand to the same standard.
Do you handle the permit and inspection?
Yes, permitting and inspection are part of the job.
How long does a replacement take?
Usually one day for a straightforward residential change-out. Longer if the ductwork, transitions, or electrical need work, or if the air handler is difficult to get to.
Can I finance a replacement?
Yes, financing is available on new systems.
Do you serve my city?
We are based in Greenacres and serve all of Palm Beach County plus Broward County.
