Thermostat installation and repair in Greenacres matters more than the price of the part suggests. A thermostat is the cheapest part of your system and the one that decides how everything else behaves. When it is wrong, the symptoms look like a failing air conditioner. Next Level Air Conditioning installs and repairs thermostats across Palm Beach County from our office in Greenacres.

Signs the thermostat is the problem
- The house never reaches the temperature on the display
- The system runs constantly, or cycles on and off every few minutes
- The screen is blank, dim, or resets itself
- The reading is clearly wrong compared to another thermometer in the same room
- It calls for cooling and nothing happens, or the fan runs with no cooling
- The system worked until somebody replaced the thermostat
We check the thermostat before assuming the expensive parts are at fault, because a surprising share of no-cool calls end at a dead battery, a wiring error, or a thermostat mounted somewhere it was never going to read the house correctly.
Placement, which is half the problem
A thermostat reads the air where it is mounted, not the house. Put it on a wall that gets afternoon sun, above a lamp, near a supply vent, or in a hallway that is always the coldest spot, and it will run the system to satisfy that one location while the rooms you live in stay wrong.
If your house has never felt evenly comfortable and the equipment checks out fine, where the thermostat sits is worth looking at before anything gets replaced.
Heat pumps need a different thermostat
This is the single most common thermostat mistake we see, and it usually follows a do-it-yourself swap.
A heat pump needs a reversing valve control wire, normally on the O terminal, and a basic cooling-only thermostat does not have one. Install the wrong thermostat and you get a system that cools when it should heat, or one that works fine until the first cold night and then does not. The wire has to be correct at the thermostat and at the equipment.
If you have a heat pump, the thermostat is not a generic part.
Repair or replace a thermostat
Replace it if the screen is failing, the housing is damaged, the unit is old enough that it is mercury or bimetal based, or you are moving to a heat pump and it cannot drive the reversing valve. Repair, or simply correct, when the problem is wiring, batteries, placement, or a configuration setting, which is often the actual fault.
What affects thermostat work cost
You get the price before the work starts, not after.
Smart thermostats, and what they actually do
We install smart thermostats and they are genuinely useful. They are also oversold, so here is the honest version.
What they are good at: controlling the house remotely, holding a schedule you would not have kept manually, telling you the system is running when nobody is home, and reminding you about the filter.
What they are not: a savings device on their own. A smart thermostat saves money when it changes behavior, which mostly means letting the house drift while nobody is in it. If your schedule is already steady, or somebody is always home, the savings are small. The convenience is still real, and that is a fine reason to buy one.
One local caution: setting the house far back during the day sounds efficient and works against you in this humidity. A system that has to pull a hot, damp house back down every afternoon runs long and hard to do it, and the humidity swing is uncomfortable on the way. Modest setbacks work better here than aggressive ones.

Frequently asked questions
Will a smart thermostat lower my power bill?
Only if it changes how the house is run. It saves by letting the temperature drift while nobody is home. If your schedule is already steady or someone is always there, expect the convenience rather than the savings.
Can I install a smart thermostat myself?
On a straight cooling system, often yes. On a heat pump, this is where most do-it-yourself installs go wrong, because a heat pump needs a reversing valve control wire, normally on O, and many basic thermostats do not provide it.
I put in a new thermostat and now my system will not heat. What happened?
Most likely the reversing valve wire. A heat pump needs that control and a cooling-only thermostat cannot drive it, so the system cools correctly and fails on the heating side.
Should I set my thermostat way back when I leave?
Not far back, in this climate. A big setback means the system has to pull a hot, humid house back down every afternoon, which runs it hard and leaves the house clammy while it catches up. Modest setbacks work better in South Florida than aggressive ones.
My thermostat says 72 but the house feels warmer. Why?
The thermostat reads the air where it is mounted. Sun on the wall, a lamp beneath it, a nearby supply vent, or a hallway location can all make it satisfy while the rooms you use stay warm. Placement is worth checking before anything gets replaced.
Is my thermostat the reason my AC is not cooling?
Sometimes, and it is cheap to rule out, which is why we check it early. Batteries, wiring and configuration account for a real share of no-cool calls.
Which smart thermostats do you install?
The common ones, including Nest, ecobee and Honeywell. The right choice depends on your equipment, particularly if you have a heat pump or multi-stage system.
Do you serve my city?
We are based in Greenacres and serve all of Palm Beach County plus Broward County.
