How we seal duct, and why it shows up as mold later
Air leaking behind the unit is not just wasted cooling. In older closets with thin walls, that leakage is what grows mold, and by the time anyone smells it the problem has been running for years.
We fabricate transitions on site, piece by piece, and run them all the way down to the throat of the equipment. A big box dropped onto the throat collects debris, and debris in a humid closet becomes a mold problem.
On duct board we seal tape-to-tape, pressed hard with a squeegee so the adhesive bonds, rather than painting mastic over everything. It seals just as well, and the next technician is not cutting through hardened mastic to reach anything.
We also seal wall penetrations before inspection, sleeve low-voltage wiring in the closet, and run drain lines neatly even where code does not require it.
Signs your ductwork is the problem
- One room is always hotter than the rest, regardless of the thermostat
- Weak airflow from some vents and strong airflow from others
- The system runs constantly but the house never quite gets there
- Dust that comes back days after you clean
- A musty smell when the system starts
- Rising power bills with no change in how you use the house
- Visible disconnected, crushed or sagging duct in an attic or crawl space
New construction and remodels
On a remodel or new build we work to your schedule: ductwork, copper line set and PVC drain at rough-in, grilles once the painting is done so they do not collect overspray, then the equipment for final set. Inspection is scheduled the day after install.
On new construction we design the duct layout for access and maintenance, not only for airflow. A system laid out so the next person can actually reach it is a system that gets serviced properly for the next twenty years.
What affects ductwork cost in Palm Beach County
What moves the number: how much of the system is being replaced versus repaired, accessibility of the runs, whether you are reworking an existing layout or designing a new one, the size of the building, and whether the work is residential or commercial.
Repair or replace the ducts
A single crushed or disconnected run is a repair. Replacement starts making sense when the system leaks in many places at once, when the original layout was wrong from the beginning, when the duct material has deteriorated, or when you are changing equipment size and the existing duct cannot carry the airflow the new system needs.
Changing to a larger system without checking whether the duct can carry the air is one of the more common and more expensive mistakes in this trade.
How long it takes
A targeted duct repair is usually a single visit. A full residential duct replacement usually runs several days depending on accessibility. Commercial build-outs and new construction are scheduled against the project timeline rather than as a standalone job.
Attics, closets, and why a leak costs more here
Leaking duct in a hot attic is the worst version of this problem. You pay to cool air and then lose a share of it into the one space in the house that is already the hottest, on the days you can least afford it.
Humidity is what turns a leak into a mold conversation rather than only an efficiency one. Warm wet air finding its way into a closet with thin walls does not stay an airflow issue for long.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my ductwork is leaking?
The usual signs are uneven room temperatures, weak airflow at some vents, dust returning quickly after cleaning, and power bills climbing without a change in how you use the house. Visible disconnected or crushed duct in the attic confirms it.
Why does my AC closet smell musty?
Often it is air leaking behind the unit. In older closets with thin walls that leakage grows mold, and it usually runs for years before anyone notices the smell. Sealing the transition properly, all the way down to the throat of the equipment, is what prevents it.
What does duct repair cost?
A single crushed run is very different from replacing a full system. How accessible the runs are, and whether we are reworking an existing layout or designing a new one, move it as well. Estimates are free.
Should I repair or replace my ducts?
One crushed or disconnected run is a repair. Replace when the system leaks in many places, when the original layout was wrong, when the material has deteriorated, or when you are moving to a larger system the existing duct cannot serve.
Do I need new ductwork if I get a bigger AC?
Possibly, and it should be checked before you buy the equipment rather than after. Duct that cannot carry the airflow a larger system needs will undo the benefit you paid for and can cause new problems.
Do you do ductwork for new construction?
Yes. We handle full HVAC design and build-outs, working with owners, architects and contractors, and we design the layout for access and maintenance rather than airflow alone.
Can you work around my remodel schedule?
Yes, and it is how we prefer to do it. Ductwork, line set and drain at rough-in, grilles after the painting is finished, then equipment for final set. Your project keeps moving.
Do you serve my city?
We are based in Greenacres and serve all of Palm Beach County plus Broward County.
