★★★★★
“From the very beginning, Robert and Omar went above and beyond. They took the time to thoroughly explain what was wrong with my unit, walked me through the next steps, and made sure I understood everything clearly.”
What's included
Media filter racks and filter upgrades, UV lights, air purifiers, humidity control, and smart thermostat installation and repair. We fit equipment to the system you already have rather than insisting you replace it.
Work covered on this page: indoor air quality, install thermostat including smart thermostats, and thermostat repair.
Start with the filter, because it is the cheapest fix available
The one-inch filter sold in every hardware store restricts airflow and is not rated for the volume of air a residential system actually pulls. It is the standard because it fits the slot.
A four to five inch media filter gives you better airflow and better filtration at the same time. That sounds like a contradiction and is not: the media has far more surface area, so the system breathes more easily while catching more of what you do not want to breathe. Most of the pre-made air handler stands used in Florida come with a built-in rack for one.
If your stand has the rack and you are running a one-inch filter in it, you are making the blower work harder for worse air. It is the single easiest improvement most homes here can make.
What we install
- Media filter racks and filters, four to five inch, for better airflow and filtration
- UV lights, which target biological growth on the coil, where a humid climate encourages it
- Air purifiers, for households dealing with allergies, pets or dust sensitivity
- Humidity control, for houses that stay damp even when the temperature is right
- Smart thermostats, installed and configured, including Nest, ecobee and Honeywell
- Thermostat repair, when the system is not getting the call it should
Signs your indoor air quality needs attention
- Dust returning within days of cleaning
- A musty smell when the system starts
- Allergy symptoms that are worse indoors than outdoors
- Humidity that stays high even when the air feels cold
- Visible growth on vents or around the air handler
- Rooms that feel stuffy regardless of temperature
A musty smell is worth taking seriously rather than masking. It often traces back to air leaking behind the unit or a transition that collects debris, both of which grow mold in a humid closet. If that is the cause, an air purifier treats the symptom while the source keeps going.
What affects the cost of indoor air quality equipment
What moves the number: which equipment you are adding, whether your air handler stand already has a media rack, whether the work can use existing electrical, and whether a thermostat is a simple swap or needs new wiring.
A note on smart thermostats and heat pumps
Heat pumps are wired differently, with the reversing valve on the O terminal, so a smart thermostat has to be set up for one or it will run the heat pump wrong. If you have a heat pump, have the thermostat installed rather than swapped. More on our thermostats page.
How long it takes
A filter rack or thermostat installation is usually well under an hour. UV lights, purifiers and humidity equipment take longer depending on where they go and whether electrical work is needed.
Humidity is the real comfort problem
A house at 76 degrees and 45 percent humidity feels better than the same house at 72 degrees and 65 percent. Most people respond to discomfort by lowering the thermostat, which costs money and does not fix what is actually wrong.
Humidity removal takes run time, which is why an oversized system makes a house feel worse: it satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it pulls the moisture out. If your house is cold and still damp, the equipment is probably too big for it.

Frequently asked questions
What filter is best for a Florida home?
A four to five inch media filter, if your air handler stand has the rack for it. It gives better airflow and better filtration than a one-inch filter, which restricts airflow and is not rated for the volume of air a system pulls. Many Florida air handler stands already have the rack built in.
Why is my house cold but still feels damp?
Almost always because the system is oversized for the house. Removing humidity takes run time, and a system that is too large satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it has run long enough to dehumidify. Lowering the thermostat makes it worse, not better.
Do UV lights actually work?
They target biological growth on the coil, which a humid climate encourages, and for that specific job they help. They are not a whole-house air purifier and should not be sold as one. Which piece of equipment is right depends on what you are actually trying to solve.
Why does my AC smell musty?
Usually air leaking behind the unit, or a duct transition collecting debris, growing mold in a humid closet. Find the source before masking the smell.
What does indoor air quality equipment cost?
It depends on which equipment you are adding, whether your air handler stand already has a media rack, and whether a thermostat is a simple swap or needs new wiring. Estimates on new equipment are free.
Can you install a smart thermostat I already bought?
Yes. Bring it and we will install and configure it.
Does a smart thermostat work with a heat pump?
Yes, but it has to be wired and configured for one, with the reversing valve on the O terminal. Set up as a standard system, it will control the heat pump incorrectly.
