Energy efficient AC upgrades in Greenacres are one of the few home improvements that pay you back every month, because cooling is the largest line on most Florida power bills. They only pay back if the right thing gets upgraded. Next Level Air Conditioning handles efficiency upgrades across Palm Beach County from our office in Greenacres.

“Most recently he and his team completed an air compressor and handler replacement for me. He and his team did such an amazing and flawless job. They were dependable, affordable, honest, and efficient.”
The SEER conversation, honestly
Higher SEER equipment costs more up front and returns it monthly. Whether that trade works depends on two things almost nobody asks about: how long you plan to stay in the house, and how many hours a year the system actually runs.
In Palm Beach County the run hours are high, which favors efficiency more than a milder state would. But a big SEER jump on a house you are selling in three years is unlikely to pay you back. We quote across efficiency levels and tell you where the curve flattens for your situation.
The filter upgrade almost nobody knows about
The one-inch filter sold in every hardware store restricts airflow and is not rated for the volume of air a residential system actually pulls. It is the default because it fits the slot.
A four to five inch media filter gives you better airflow and better filtration, and most Florida air handler stands already have the rack for one. Why it works is on our indoor air quality page.
This is the cheapest upgrade on this page and it is often the one with the best return.
Upgrades worth considering
- Right-sized high-efficiency equipment at replacement time, quoted across tiers
- Duct sealing or duct replacement where leakage is measurable
- A media filter rack if the air handler stand supports one
- A programmable or smart thermostat, which helps if the schedule is actually used
- Variable speed equipment, which runs longer at lower output and controls humidity better than single-stage equipment, which in this climate is worth more than the raw efficiency number suggests
- Heat pump conversion if the house currently heats with electric strip heat

What we will not tell you
That a new unit will cut your bill in half. Any number quoted without seeing your equipment, your ductwork and how you run the house is a guess. We look at the whole system, tell you which of the five steps below applies to your house, and let you decide where the money goes.
What actually lowers a cooling bill
In rough order of how often it is the real answer:
- Correct sizing. An oversized system never runs long enough to remove humidity, so you run the house colder to feel comfortable. Right sizing costs nothing extra at replacement time.
- Sealed, correctly sized ductwork. Air leaking into an attic is cooling you paid for and did not get.
- A filter that lets the system breathe. A restricted filter makes the blower work harder every hour it runs.
- A correct refrigerant charge and clean coils. A system that is low or dirty runs longer to do the same work.
- Then, the SEER rating of the equipment.
Most efficiency pitches start with that last one. The first four are where the money usually is, and three of them cost far less than new equipment.

Frequently asked questions
Will a new high-efficiency AC cut my power bill?
It will lower it, and by how much depends on what you have now, how leaky the ductwork is, and how you run the house. Anyone who quotes you a percentage before looking at your system is guessing.
Is a higher SEER always worth the extra cost?
No. It returns more the longer you stay in the house and the more hours the system runs. Our run hours here are high, which helps the math, but a large SEER jump on a house you are selling soon usually will not come back to you.
What is the cheapest thing I can do to lower my cooling bill?
Usually the filter and the ductwork, not the equipment. If your air handler stand has a four or five inch media rack and you are running a one-inch filter, switching costs very little and improves both airflow and filtration.
Why does a thicker filter improve airflow? Should it not restrict it more?
The opposite, because of surface area. A four to five inch media filter has far more filter area than a one-inch panel, so air passes through more easily while the media still catches more. The one-inch filter is the default because it fits the slot, not because it is right.
Does a bigger system save energy?
No, it costs energy and comfort. Oversized systems short cycle, never run long enough to remove humidity, and leave you cooling the house further than you need to just to feel dry.
Is variable speed equipment worth it in Florida?
Often yes, and more for humidity control than for the efficiency number. Running longer at lower output pulls more moisture out of the air, which is what actually makes a Florida house comfortable.
Will duct sealing really make a difference?
If the duct leaks, yes, and in older houses it frequently does. Air leaking into an attic is cooling you paid for and never received. It is worth checking before spending on higher-efficiency equipment.
Can I finance an upgrade?
Yes, financing is available on new systems.
